To summarise the top 100 UK Graduate Employers from the data available.

  • Aldi offer the highest graduate salary of £40,000, followed by law firms offering £37,000 – £39,000
  • McDonald’s Restaurants offer the lowest graduate salary of £18,500 (minimum)
  • Law firm applications are the most futuristic, applications close in July 2012 for start in 2014
  • All the Government services in the Top 100 employers have gone down in rankings as compared to 2010 ranks. Civil Service has fallen from Rank 3 (in 2010) to Rank 8 (in 2011)
  • PwC and Deloitte remain unchanged at position 1 and 2 respectively. Remaining unchanged for 2 years.
  • The Big 4 Audit firms (PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, Ernst & Young) have 4350 graduate vacancies on offer.
  • Oxfam is the only Top 100 Graduate Employer stating graduate salary as ‘voluntary’ (not paid)
  • Apple is the top newcomer of 2011-12 entering straight at position 53
  • 30% of the last 20 positions are newcomers which means next year there will be big movers

Major issue for International Students

All of the UK Top 100 Graduate Employers and indeed all of the graduate employers in the UK have a condition of application for international students. International students have to show they have the right to work or take up employment in the UK.

With the abolition of Tier 1: Post Study Work(PSW) Visa in April 2012, international students will be in a dilemma as to what to state on the application. With the decision on what will replace PSW visa scheduled for not earlier than April 2012, most international students will probably have a negative mark against them on this issue.

If you are an international student, it is advised to speak to the employer’s HR department and making them aware of your situation. I hope the Careers Services at Universities offer some kind of support or advise on this issue.
