Of course not everyone is or can be a Quincy Jones, a Bruce Springsteen, or a member of the Beatles, but just like them, you should harbour the belief that there’s room for your talent too. All you need to do is explore the options open to you with regards to studying and practicing your art. Whether you look to providing backup vocals, engineering a studio session, or tutoring children on the basics of music, there are many courses out there to suit your needs, such as a Certificate IV in Music, lessons from a private tutor in singing or playing an instrument, or you could start watching the masters at work in the studio to begin your music education.

Your aim should be to position yourself as the select person to go to for a specific skill or talent. Industry rejection should not serve as discouragement. Just keep on practising and fine-tuning your skill, and sooner or later you will be recognized and rewarded. The bottom-line is, you should stay confident, believing in yourself and persevering against and beyond naysayers’ opinions.

2. Cherish Connections and Relationships

In the music industry, who-you-know/ who-knows-you is a great factor worthy of consideration if you want to build a career here. The quality (as well as the quantity) of your friends and fans are fundamental drivers of your progress. As such, keep trying to ever build on projects that bring you closer tor fellow professionals in the industry. You may do so by combining your live show with some other acts and present that to a local promoter.

If your interest is in the business side of music, interning with a music production company is the choicest way to both acquaint yourself with how the business works, as well as connecting with those who matter in helping you move your career up the ladder.

Music is used everywhere in advertising, and this has created endless opportunities for those in the music industry. Businesses away from music industry are constantly seeking creative and catchy ways to bring musical related advertisement to their brands. This tells you that you are not confined only in the traditional forms of music to build your career in music and find success.
