Searching for a job can be overwhelming, disheartening and extremely tedious at times, so here are a few inspirational career quotes to help boost your morale and keep you on the right track:

‘Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work’ – Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison didn’t shy away from inventing the light bulb to take an afternoon nap; he got his hands dirty and fully embraced every aspect of the working world. You may have to settle and do a job that isn’t your dream for a while, but think of it as a stepping stone. Remind yourself that your position is only temporary and you’ll gain some life experience along the way. You never know what opportunities might come your way!

‘Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today’–Thomas Jefferson

Put down the biscuits! Step away from the sofa and stop procrastinating! Re-do your CV (for the thousandth time), make several different ones that cater for various positions, and do the same with your covering letter. Submit your CV to online recruitment sites, drop it into local businesses by hand or even send out speculative CVs to companies that aren’t even advertising. Express an interest in their company, make yourself known and remain positive. Don’t let ‘I’ll do it tomorrow…’ become your catchphrase!

‘The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results’ – Benjamin Franklin

If your job hunting routine isn’t working, mix it up a little. If you’re sending out tons of CVs and not getting any interview offers, it’s time to take a critical look at your CV and work out what needs changing. If you continuously moan about your dead-end job, change it. We are all sticklers for a routine in one way or another, and following our good friend Benjamin’s advice, we should break free from our insanity to get different results!

‘Success is how high you bounce when you hit the bottom’–General George Patton

Everybody experiences their ‘low point’; the moment when you feel well and truly drained by the job hunt, you feel as though you can’t go on and that you have reached rock bottom. You can either stay down there, feeling sorry for yourself, or you can do exactly what the General says and bounce back! Sometimes, you need to get to that all-time low to realize just how much you want something and if that ‘something’ is your dream job, stick at it! Be determined, ambitious and confident in your abilities.

‘Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm’–Winston Churchill.

Success-consists-of

Churchill won a war with his mantras and you can win the war against unemployment by keeping positive and staying enthusiastic about your current position. If you receive a ‘sorry you didn’t get the job’ letter or phone call, do not be afraid to ask for feedback. It may help you to improve your interview techniques or change your CV/covering letter. Constructive criticism is not a failure; see it as a step in the right direction.
