Find The Best Day Of The Week to Apply for Jobs and More Recruitment Data

Written by Faizan Patankar

When is the best time apply for jobs?

It’s a simple question with no perfect answer. There are general conventions to go by, for e.g. apply to a role as early as possible, don’t apply for jobs on the deadline.

However, I came across an article by Smart Recruiters in which they deep down into the statistics of recruitment.

To find out when is the best day to apply for jobs, Smart Recruiters examined a cross section of over 270,000 jobs in America and Canada posted on their website since 2013.

Tuesday is the most popular day in recruitment

Cross examining the data, showed that Tuesday is the day when highest number of people apply for jobs. As Smart Recruiters write,

According to the findings, not only is Tuesday the most popular day for companies to post jobs, it’s also the day when the highest number of people apply for jobs and the most popular day to get hired.

Tuesday also happens to be the most popular day to make a hiring decision. Again, the graph illustrates the beginning of the week when most of the hiring happens, with a significant dip over the weekend when most businesses are closed.

For hiring teams and job seekers, Tuesday seems to be the magic day for hiring success. As a job candidate, take the weekend to get your ducks in a row, update your resume, get your references lined up and watch the job boards for new postings during the beginning of the week, specifically on Tuesdays.

Further analysis of the data in the system showed that nearly 60 percent of applicants apply within the first week of the job being posted.

This in some part re-confirms the notion, it is better to apply to a role as soon as it is advertised. When a new job pops-up and interests you, don’t wait until the last minute to submit your application. Take advantage of less competition at the start and apply early.

And by applying for a job early, you are showing that you are truly interested in the job. It shows your enthusiasm.
